Our Aristocrat awnings come with a 10-year warranty on the frame, gears, and arms.
Aristocrat Shade Products in Markham, Ontario, is one of Canada’s leaders in awning production and design. They have been producing awnings for more than 26 years, and we have been selling them on Vancouver Island for over 25 years. This means we can offer you seven retractable patio awning styles, four retractable window awning styles, and four styles of fixed awnings.
Aristocrat Awnings are the only awnings in Canada produced with all aluminum frames. The 3 mm thick structural extrusions are shaped for maximum strength and rigidity. Other manufacturers use steel round tube and mounting bars. Steel is a lot cheaper than aluminum but painted or galvanized steel will rust – this is a particular concern in the marine climate of Vancouver Island. Steel is also heavy, adding up to 40% to the weight of an awning which in turn adds more stress on the house and is problematic if you ever need or want to take the awning down.
All Aristocrat’s Canadian-made aluminum extrusions are powder-coated in RAL 9016 white which means that these awnings will not pit or corrode. They are also available in black and light beige.
Our GEIGER bevel speed gears are the most advanced gear systems available on the market today. These gears are extremely fast crown and pinion gears with a 3:1 ratio on awnings up to 20’ and 8:1 ratio on awnings wider than 20’. This is compared to the old style worm gears at 8:1 and 13:1 ratios respectively. Why should you care? Better and faster gears mean you will spend less time winding your awning in and out with less effort than slower worm gears.
Also the spherical eye and specially designed manual crank handle act as a universal coupling which enables operation from almost any angle. Old fashioned hook and eye gears used on other awnings require the operator to be directly in-line with the gear to operate them.
Our GEIGER gears also have a built-in end stop, preventing you from inadvertently winding the awning up backwards, which in some cases could damage the fabric.
Motorize your awning with Somfy motors, the best and most user-friendly motor in the business. Motorization allows you to:
Effortlessly extend or retract your awning with the simple touch of a button
Conveniently control your awning from up to 60’ away
Add state-of-the-art wind and sun sensors to control your awning to maximize energy savings
Protect the entire awning system
The Royal, Royal Cassette, Marcesa and Classic patio awning models are available with an adjustable pitch option, allowing you to easily adjust the leading edge of the awning from zero to 45˚ angle – even when the awning is fully projected! Adjustable pitch angle means you can compensate for the lower angle of the sun, especially valuable in south and west-facing decks.
The Imperial and Imperial Marcesa are available with adjustable drop valances made either from sunscreen or awning fabric. This valance, contained in its own cassette roller tube on the front profile of the awning, can be raised and lowered with a detachable crank handle whenever you need that extra bit of shade and screening.
All nuts and bolts are made of stainless steel. Where stainless steel is not practical, zinc cadmium plating is used – a choice that has proven itself over the years.
All moving components (such as arms and idle end brackets) have stainless steel shafts on self-lubricating oil bronze bushings, meaning no maintenance is required.
The cable system on Aristocrat awnings varies from poly-coated steel belt on the Imperial and Royal models to the single cable/double spring system on the Classic and Marcesa models. Other systems often use two lighter weight cables, one for each spring, as this is often thought to be a superior system. However, it is completely unnecessary since if one cable fails, the arm still needs to be replaced. The thickness of our single aircraft cable is 3/16” that makes it about 4 times stronger than the 1/8” cable commonly used on double cable systems. Aristocrat springs keep the awning fabric tight and have been stress tested to keep this tension for many, many years. A cheaper ‘over-tensioned’ spring steel will be noticeably weaker in a very short time because of its memory; a particular problem when it has been over-tensioned.
On Aristocrat awnings with three arms (typically 20’ to 24’ in width), all 3 arms are spring tensioned. Many other manufacturers remove the spring tension from the centre arm, making for a much weaker awning with poor fabric tension.
The centre beam on the Marcesa models, which helps support the fabric in windy conditions, is an exclusive feature to Aristocrat Shade Products Ltd. The centre beam has no sharp edges or corners to damage the fabric.
The Marcesa beam is also anodized to 15 micros thickness, giving a smooth hard finish. In 25 years we have installed this awning on Vancouver Island, we have never observed even the slightest fabric wear from the centre beam. In fact, the beam may actually extend the life of fabric by reducing wear from flapping in the wind and by decreasing the space where rainwater can accumulate and pool which can then stretch the fabric out of shape.
Our hood covers, constructed of extruded aluminum, are available either in silver satin anodized or powder-coated white (they can also be custom coloured). All our hood covers up to 30’ are one continuous piece (seamless) rather than several pieces joined together and have a rolled drip edge that behaves as a gutter in the rain.
