Logo Skylight coverings

PROBLEM:

"My solarium is too hot to use!" "The sun from my skylight is making my floor fade." "My sunroom is so hot it's making the rest of the house unbearable in the summer."
We hear that a lot. You might have chosen expensive, low-e glass, maybe even tinted glass for your new sunroom ... you've got blinds inside that are closed most of the time when it's sunny. You've even installed a ventilation system and/or air conditioning and it's STILL too hot.

THE REASON:

THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT

greenhouseGreenhouses were designed to gather and retain heat primarily for growing plants. They are made out of glass or clear acrylic panels for a reason - glass lets in sunlight which is transformed into heat upon contact with something (plants, furniture, floors etc.) and then trapped inside. Once the heat is in the room it's there to stay unless you have a powerful ventilation system or air conditioning - and even then usually it's not enough. That's why blinds or drapes on the inside of the room can provide light and glare control but will be relatively ineffective in reducing the heat buildup.
It's imperative to block the sun before it penetrates the glass.

SOLUTIONS:

A MOTORIZED ROLLSHUTTER SOLARIUM OR SKYLIGHT COVER

rollshutter upA rollshutter is made up of interlocking aluminum slats with a foam insulating core. They are installed on the outside of the glass and roll up and down on rails into a panelbox on the top. You simply push a button to move it up, down, or stop anywhere in between.
rollshutter downBecause rollshutters can block up to 90% of solar heat gain, many of our customers have been able to eliminate the need for air conditioning completely, thereby reducing energy costs and yet enjoying a comfortable environment.
It's effectiveness lies in the fact that it's on the outside ...stopping the light before it penetrates the glass and traps the heat inside.
It's beauty lies in the fact that you have control over how much or how little light you want to let in simply by pushing a button!
"We both enjoy our sunroom so much more since you installed the rollshutter. Thanks again for your courteous, fast and efficient service"
E. Beltgens

DO I HAVE TO BLOCK ALL THE LIGHT IN MY BEAUTIFUL ROOM??

skylight coverflat sunroom It isn't necessary to completely black out the inside of your room. Most of the time it is sufficient to mount the rollshutter on the top 1/2 - 1/3 of the room or just on the ceiling, where the sun beats the strongest, leaving the bottom open to your view.
In addition, the light slots that are between each slat can be left open for a filtered light. They are infinitely adjustable to block out whatever amount of sun you want.

Rollshutter solarium/skylight covers come in 4 standard colours (white, lt. beige, grey or brown) with hundreds of custom colours available. The unit can be controlled with a switch or remote and can be joined to a sun/wind sensor that will automate the raising and lowering the the shutter as the sun dictates.

While rollshutters are the ultimate solarium/skylight heat control, here is another effective and versatile solution:

A MOTORIZED DURASHADE E2000

skylight screenIf you want to block out a significant portion of the heat, but still want to maintain light and a view, a motorized screen system is the answer
The Durashade E2000 is intended as a horizontal screen system, covering glass roofs, pergolas, conservatories and skylights.
This exterior screen system comes in an open-weave fabric available in different densities or with a large variety of solid acrylic fabrics. This allows you to choose just how much light/heat you wish to block.
It has a specially designed self-cleaning debris brush to keep the fabric clear as it rolls up. The frame and panelbox comes in 4 standard colours (white, sand, brown and ivory). The system is controlled as easily as the rollshutters ... with either a switch or remote control.

FIXED SCREEN PANELS

fixed panelsIf you'd prefer to have a heat and light control solution on your sunroom, skylight, glass roof or pergola that's not retractable, consider a fixed frame screen panel.
A fixed panel has an aluminum frame, either in white, black or brown; and covered with a sunscreen fabric in a variety of colours and densities. The frame is clipped into an 'H' track which is installed on your window frame, which makes it easily removeable for the winter if so desired. It can be made into whatever shape of window or glass panel you need to cover - even curved!

SUNBLOCKERS

shadescreenThe most economical solution for filtering UV rays from glass in skylights is called a 'Sunblocker'. It's made of a heavy-duty, extremely strong, extremely durable, vinyl coated polyester. They are built to withstand all weather conditions and will last through years of extreme heat, rain and snow. These 'sunblockers' fit over the outside of the skylight.
They will fit either flat, pyramid or bubble skylights by means of grommeted stretch cords on each of the 4 corners which simply hook underneath the corners of the skylight. They require no tools to install. They are easily removeable for the winter when you might want the extra sunlight.
Sunblockers are available in standard sizes or can be custom made to fit almost any shape. They come in 3 different densities which have an openness factor (how much light/heat is allowed through) of either 25%, 10% or 5%. The most common and perhaps the best combination of heat blockage and visibility is the Suntex 90 with it's 10% openness. Please see chart below for standard sizes and prices. For densities other than Suntex 90, please contact us for prices. The prices are all in Canadian Dollars and do not include shipping, handling, taxes or installation. Please see below for additional information.
