To really understand why rollshutters are so efficient in controlling heat buildup, you need to consider how the 'Greenhouse Effect' applies to your home.
When sunlight penetrates a transparent surface (such as glass) and comes into contact with an object (such as floor, wall, furniture or drapes) the light energy is converted to heat energy. This is why blinds or drapes on the inside will provide shade and some light control, but will be relatively ineffective in reducing the temperature buildup. Heat control with rollshutters also works in reverse!

BC Hydro Power Smart approved, a completely lowered rollshutter will significantly reduce heat loss from the glass in winter. The closed rollshutter curtain traps a still air space between itself and the glass. This space, plus the insulation inside the curtain itself, creates the insulating value. The average reduction in heat loss is approximately 50% - with an 'R' value of between 2.5 and 3.5 depending on thickness and type of material chosen. This can significantly reduce your heating costs! As an added advantage, rollshutters will eliminate most condensation and frost build-up problems on your glasspanes at the same time!
