EXTERIOR RETRACTABLE SOLAR SCREENS
 Mounting a rolling solar screen (or sunscreen) on the exterior of your home provides excellent protection for solar heat gain. It reduces glare significantly, thereby easing strain on the eyes and enabling better viewing of TV and computer screens.
 During the daytime, solar screens offer privacy from persons on the outside of a building (see right)  while ensuring that occupants have a clear view from the inside out.
Retractable solar screens are mounted on the outside of the glass for the most effective heat control. This is because you always want to stop the sun before it penetrates the glass. Once the sun goes through the glass, the light energy is transformed into heat energy which is now trapped inside the room. That is why blinds or screens on the inside are far less effective in providing heat control.
TALIUS HABITAT SCREENSOur screen system from Talius uses similar components -  such as a panel box and rails -as their popular rollshutters (see rollshutters page for overview). The interlocking aluminum slats used in rollshutters are then replaced with screen material.
Habitat screens are controlled either by a motor with a switch or remote, or can be operated manually either inside or out.
What makes the Talius system so different is their unique 'edge retention' system  that keeps the screen secure in it's tracks in windy conditions. If you're in a very windy location, the screens can be equipped with wind sensors that will retract the screens automatically when the wind is too strong.
Another popular use of the habitat screens is insect control. Since the screen is 'locked' into the rails, it provides an insect barrier for balconies, decks or windows.
Talius habitat screens are available in widths up to 19'6" and heights up to 12'. The screen material is available in several densities - depending on how much sun/heat you want to block vs. how much view you want to keep - and a variety of colours. DURASOL SCREEN SYSTEMS The Durashade D7600 is an attractive custom-made exterior screen system for windows.
These screens are available in three different guide styles; rod, cable and track and can be operated either motorized or manually. Their universal bracket allows for ceiling or wall mount or inside the window frame. They have a special locking front bar that permits the unit to withstand moderate wind. The Durashade D7600 covers openings up to 20' wide and 16' high.
The Durashade E2000 is an exterior retractable screen for shading skylights, pergolas and glass roofs.
This custom motorized unit can be used individually or combined with multiple units to provide a comfortable living environment and help lower cooling cost.
The Durashade E2000 also features a housing that incorporates a brush to prevent debris from rolling up with the fabric into the unit. The Durasol E2000 comes in widths of between 5' - 16' and projections from 4' - 13' (4' - 16' with acrylic fabric).
The Durashade LE1000 is an attractive horizontal, spring-loaded shade system.  This outdoor screen provides a dividing wall for condominium and townhouse decks and patios. It features a semi-cassette, which hides retracting components and fabric while not in use. To extend, simply pull the shade handle and attach to a wall mount or the post system provided and you have instant privacy from your neighbors and UV protection for you.
The Durashade LE1000 also works great for that annoying side light that creeps under your existing patio awning as well.
It comes in heights from 4' - 8' and widths from 3' - 13'.All of the above Durashade units are available with either an open weave in multiple densities or over 225 solid acrylic fabrics. The frame finishes are all polyester powder-coated and are available in white, sand, brown or ivory.
